SNOW
By Orhan Pamuk
Snow, by Orhan Pamuk, is a powerful novel about life and Islam in rural Turkey. A wool topcoat is prominently featured throughout this mystifying and illuminating novel, which is a beautiful ode to the wonderful country of Turkey.
THE THOUSAND AUTUMNS OF JACOB DE ZOET
By David Mitchell
A wonderful piece of historical fiction that takes place as the Dutch colonize a small sliver of Japan - it's a mix of the idiosyncrasies of the Dutch and the Japanese that makes for a great read.
THE BOOK OF COLOUR CONCEPTS - TASCHEN
By Sarah Lowengard
This compendium of color concepts from 1686 to now provides an overview of color theory and practice. It's been useful to me to find the color theorists that resonate and then research their contemporaries. The diagrams and scale of the drawings are helpful in my color work, particularly around the theosophist concepts of the 1920s.
