My friend is a Guatemalan son to a botanist mother whose father farmed quinine after arriving in Guatemala via Norway in the early 1900s. My friend really loves plants, it's in his blood and I had no idea.

He and his mother have been frequenting the NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx since he arrived in NY to work at the UN. A few weeks ago, he suggested that we head up there and have a walkabout - I said sure without really considering the request. So we biked up there - encountering one flat tire in Queens on a gorgeous day. I didn't have any expectations and was really just there for the bike ride.

Much like what happens when you don't have expectations; I was blown away at the size and beauty of the Bronx Botanical Gardens. Here are few photos from the day.
